Frequently Asked Life Insurance Questions

How is Life insurance pricing determined?

Pricing for Life insurance is based on a few different issues: Age, Gender, Tobacco Use, Medical History, Family History, Driving Record, Foreign Travel, etc.

How long does it take for a Life insurance policy to be issued?

We’ve had Life insurance polices issued within 2 days and we’ve had polices that took 4 months to issue. The amount of time it takes is partially up to you, but also the cooperation of doctors’ offices when medical records are required.

In order to avoid any unnecessary delays, it is best to include all requested information on an application and to be as thorough as possible. This will avoid delays in ordering medical records and in underwriting your Life insurance application.

What impact will my medical history have on my application for Life insurance?

Your health is a big part of the underwriting process for life insurance. Your medical history, depending on its severity can either cause the insurance carrier to require higher premiums or even worse, decline your application. If you have a question regarding a specific health condition and the implications it may have with your life insurance application, Contact us and we will discuss it with you to develop a solution to your circumstances.

How will being pregnant affect my eligibility to obtain life insurance coverage?

This depends on how many months pregnant you are and if you have had any complications. Many people have the misconception that if you are pregnant you should not apply for Life insurance. In our opinion, if you are healthy, eligible and need it, then you should certainly apply for Life insurance.

We have worked with many women who were eligible for top health ratings while they were pregnant. If someone has told you otherwise, they are simply incorrect.

Where can I find an immediate online Life insurance quote?

Actually, we do not provide automatic quotes, because they are usually not accurate.

Every insurance company uses different underwriting guidelines. You may qualify for the “super man” health category with one company, but qualify for the second–best category with another. For example, one insurance company may require cholesterol levels of 220 or less for their best health category, but a different company may allow cholesterol levels up to 240. In order to actually find you the lowest price, we would need to take this into consideration.

Working with one of our insurance specialists will provide you a better service than the life insurance quote system other websites have. We prefer to set realistic expectations for our clients.

That being said, we do still understand the value in having estimated prices to plan for. Our Term-Life Premium Table can provide you with estmitated life insurance pricing.

What do Insurance companies review when underwriting an application?

The following is a list of things insurance companies review that may impact the health class you fit into:

  • Medical History – gender, height/weight, medical conditions, lab results, blood pressure levels, medication taken, mental/nervous conditions, critical illnesses, etc.
  • Tobacco Use – type of tobacco product you use, last time a tobacco product was used, how long it has been since you stopped using tobacco, etc.
  • Family History – number of premature deaths in your family and reason, number of immediate family members diagnosed with: Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease, etc. and the ages at onset. (This includes immediate family only)
  • Driving Record – number of violations within last 5 years, DUI or DWI, etc.
  • Foreign Travel – countries you visit outside of US or Canada, how long you are in a given country each year, purpose of travel, etc.
  • Citizenship – nation of citizenship, current visa type, current residency, future residency, etc.
  • Risky Activity – aviation/piloting, scuba diving, rock climbing, parachuting, auto/motorcycle/boat racing, etc.

  • What does applying for Life insurance entail?

There are two steps in applying for life insurance: Completing the application for Life insurance and completing your insurance medical exam.

Once you have reviewed your personal quote and decide to move forward, your assigned consultant can help you complete your application by phone. We complete applications by phone to insure that they are properly and fully completed, in order to minimize underwriting delays. Once your application is complete, we will mail or email you a copy to review and sign. The signed pages can be returned to us by mail, email or fax.

We will also have a local paramedical service contact you and schedule your insurance medical exam. This can be completed at your home or work. The thoroughness of your exam is determined by your age and the level of coverage you apply for.

Once the application is completed and signed, and you have completed the insurance medical exam, we will submit everything to the selected lifeinsurance company for review. You will receive an underwriting progress report through email on a bi–weekly basis.
